Tinashé - Pieces of Paper

Genre: Alternative, Pop

09-tinashe-pieces of paper by ModerneFusion

There was a phase where I really liked this guy's songs and had his album on loop for a day. Anyway, I wanted to post this song after reading various quote pictures on MoneyNaoPlz's blog. I have to say that this song kind of relates to the quotes and my past perspective on life. It really does feel like we're constantly working and in search of something that we don't even know of. Like one example is the discussion of "Passion" for a career, after much discussion, I believe it's an idea created by this western culture to make your desires insatiable. It's almost too hard to be happy if you think you will find it in a job or any other tangible thing. In comparison to the old days, they just did their jobs and thought nothing of it, now with all these options and choices, we want the "perfect" job even though the education system makes jobs look like work that is not fun. So really, why are we working for pieces of paper when the lifestyle only consists of working, buying, consuming, then dying?
After much pondering, these thoughts may be quite pessimistic because I personally think that no matter what, there are always things to look forward to. I think in the end it all comes down to: if you see all these negativity, then change it by changing yourself. You might think since this is the doing of the modern/western culture that we should just move elsewhere, but there is an old latin saying that says even if you change your surroundings and environment, it does not change the environment within you. So ya, lets all be happy happy joy joy :)

P.S. Let me know about your perspective on the concept of having a passion for your job or life in general in the comment box blow! :)

  1. The vocals are a little odd but over all the song is good.

As far as having a passion for something, I think if you find a job you can be passionate about then you're a lucky person.

  4. Good song, bro. It's chill and mellow.
And yeah, if you think of it like that, life is all about the cycle of producing and consuming that eventually ends with the mundane finality of death. And I'm sure every once in a while that concept enters people's minds but hey, we're human and we're bound to have emotions that creates something somewhat less dead out of the cyclic lifestyle we have. We can either try and make the best out of the way our species live and go out with a bang or just live life day by day and expect the end, which would suck.

  7. The track is pretty nice, though not really my style, the message is something to think about. Something I really like in my music.

I've got this track by Rakim that's about this subject, I believe. He's talking about people who just want to get on, without a goal, waiting for the world to end (basically the thing you said, working, buying, consuming) I personally thought the lyrics were great and the message it tells me really motivates me. (I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG29HOJdgQs btw)
