Success and Living

"The danger of education, I have found, is that it so easily confuses means with ends. Worse than that, it quite easily forgets both and devotes itself merely to the mass production of uneducated graduates--people literaly unfit for anything except to take part in an elaborate and completely artificial charade which they and their contemporaries have conspired to call 'life'."

"[A publisher asked me to write something on 'The Secret of Success,' and I refused.] If I had a message to my contemporaries, I said, it was surely this: Be anything you like, be madmen, drunks, and bastards of every shape and form, but at all costs avoid one thing: success. ... If you have learned only how to be a success, your life has probably been wasted. If a university concentrates on producing successful people, it is lamentably failing in its obligation to society and to the students themselves."

"A superficial freedom to wander aimlessly here or there, to taste this or that, to make a choice of distractions (in Pascal's sense) is simply a sham. It claims to be a freedom of 'choice' when it has evaded the basic task of discovering who it is that chooses."

"Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony."

Even though I've always tried to really find the "meaning of life," I've never truly been able to grasp it. It always seems so ambiguous to me. For a long time I've felt like there's always this "goal" we all needed to work for and not only until we reach this goal does it actually define ourselves. Especially this word "success" runs through all our heads probably at least once. What's weird is that there is no clear definition for it, it is whatever you perceive it to be. Our perspective on life is greatly influenced by our perception of time. We are very future-oriented in this capitalist society and also because of the seasons. In comparison to other places on earth it's sunny 24/7 so they are usually more present-oriented. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3oIiH7BLmg) So I really wonder, is what the media portrays success really what we perceive it to be? I mean you see the "success" of people on TV but you never see the process, they worked REAL HARD for these things. And the funny part is a lot of them don't do it for the money, they do it for the feeling of fulfillment (the status and "success" all just come with it). So why isn't there more emphasis on personal/internal success instead of all these tangible things?

I mean there are lots of self-help books and motivational quotes out there with "top ten tips" to success which all basically include the 1 main factor, perseverance.  As long as there is failure and you don't give up, there is success. What I believe is that the moment you even read about success and all these things, you don't actually desire to succeed in whatever that goal you're trying to achieve, you just like the idea. You have to actually want it so bad that it almost becomes some sort of obsession that you're willing to give up almost anything just to get it, hence wolf or sheep. Obviously you can't always have these extremes, there's always a balance of some sort, like sacrificing half of your life to be filthy rich for the other half, or just being consistently happy with an average life. I mean things don't happen all at once. "Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony" and same with success and life or anything for that matter. What it all comes down to is what you truly desire, not what you or anyone else made you think you desire.

In the end, "discover who it is that chooses," and you might actually find something.

I think the best advice I ever got from anybody was when I was in high school and called an advisor at SFU and panicked about what courses to take and etcetera, and all she said was "choose whatever you like."

Seriously, just do what you love and what makes you happy :)

Creativity Fail

I am sure that everyone is well aware of the artist David Guetta, he got pretty damn freaky deaky famous off his song with Akon, Sexy Bitch:

I do give him credit for creating such a club banger, but listen to his "new" song and I am pretty sure you can hear the exact same song except just a little shuffled up and maybe tweaked here and there:

This is quite common in mainstream music, all the hits seem to have the same pattern, so it's actually not hard to make one.

Dub F*ckin' Step

Genre: Dubstep

I love dubstep, I can understand why it isn't mainstream since sometimes the bass hits really hard, but I'd definitely give this genre a try. You know you're a transformer when you listen to dubstep.

B.O.B - Lovelier than You

All I can say is that I would definitely play this song at my wedding.

Beyblade: Metal Fusion

I just saw the most hilarious thing and thought I'd share it.

The american take and remake on Japanese animation is just too fun to pass up. This whole thing reminds me of Pokemon, except Pokemon actually made WAY more sense and was much better. This whole "connection" with your metal thing that can somehow take form of a huge creature and change the weather is just too funny. The thing that really cracked me up are the voice dubs. These guys sound nothing like their characters and way too over the top.

Now I understand why a lot of people make fun of those who watch anime, I'd probably do it too if I see things as stupid as this. The main character sounds like a social outcast who's whining all the time, the bad guy sounds like a pedophile, and the fat character gets the voice of some super hyper active weirdo who sounds like he's always yelling. What's worse is that the lines don't even sound believable, they sound more like fillers just to take up screen time. One really good example is when the character would say "I wanna be the best beyblader too! do you understand what I'm saying?" OF COURSE I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, YOU JUST STATED IT! WTH!!?!? LOL

Epik High - Love Love Love

I thought I'd share some catchy nice Asian tunes, instead of Japan, this time it's Korea. Hope you guys like it! I made sure I picked the video with English subtitles too!

Imogen Heap - Come Here Boy

Genre: Indie

Imogen Heap - Come Here Boy by ModernFusion

Another song that I can't seem to get out of my head by the famous Imogen Heap. Her songs just vocally different in a sense that she sings differently. She goes from high to low real quick and does not do the usual "gradual progression" of pitch and instant hit the high notes in a lot of mainstream songs you hear. I really enjoyed this song and it somehow lulled me into a 1.5hour REM deep nap :P

(Purchase the album here.  Follow me on twitter & facebook! Share this with your friends :D)

Note: For all those who are wondering, I will most likely still post songs from time to time even though Google has destroyed my hopes of making blogging my somewhat pocket change income. Cross my fingers for having it reinstated though :) I just thought it's quite weird how they can cancel your account for suspicion of "illegal" which is judged by the Click ratio with how many people actually, subscribe or buy from these advertisements. This alone assumes that the moment you click an ad you will buy something which NONE of these factors are controlled by the bloggers in anyway yet they still suffer from the consequences. Big Corporations piss me off.

In other news, I might start my own youtube channel where I video blog about random things in life :) It'll most likely be a comedy so stay tuned!

Great news, they are not going to reinstate my account, let me go rage. Gonna swim the ocean of a thousand suns and front crawl to the nearest great white shark and wrestle him to death whilst I seduce the sirens that come in my way.

So Now I've decided to try bidvertiser, even though I can't even code it right to make it align, but oh well, it has to do for now.

Tear Jerking Wednesdays ;(

Athlete - The Awkward Goodbye

The way the song builds to the very end is just so nice and sad ;)

The Script - For the First Time

Has a tiny hint of country feel to it, but very true, you only really feel a deep connection with an individual when you toss away all the material things that built the relationship.

Petur Ben - I'll be here

Very slow song, Petur's voice definitely sounds like he's in agony as he watches the one he loves slowly slip away from him.

Note: Why all these sad songs!?! Well my AdSense account got disabled just yesterday because apparently my clicks were illegal. I find it quite unfair that even though you follow all the policies to a T, if your CTR is too high or something seems "suspicious" about your statistics that they ban your account. Not too sure how you can justify this when the blogger doesn't even have control over who clicks his ads. Anyway, I wrote an appeal form and hope everything goes well. Let me know what you guys think and also about your experiences with AdSense :P

Edit: Apparently I can't even post pictures of any sort anymore because Google just assumes I'm using images that I don't have license to... Feels like I'm on their black list or something...

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls

Genre: Indie Rock, Dance Punk

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls by ModernFusion

These guys make really cool off beat music. At first I didn't like the album, but later it really grew on me and I thoroughly enjoyed it :D They seem to be quite the fun band too! Definitely give them a try and let me know what you think.

(Purchase his album here.  Follow me on twitter & facebook! Share this with your friends :D)

P.S. For all those who didn't know, I had an interview recently for a government job and boy was it freakishly hard, all the questions were designed to make you choke and I literally screwed up quite a bit. That was probably the only interview I've ever felt incompetent about. I hope I will have better luck next year :( If by some miracle I do get accepted, I will be super stoked for Combat Defensive Training :D

Yiruma - Time Forgets...

Genre: New Age, Classical

Yiruma - Time Forgets... by ModernFusion

You might know him from his song "River Flows in You" for the twilight series. But he's got way more and better songs in his repertoire. Yiruma is my absolute favorite pianist hands down. Yiruma's songs are all good. I can't pick a single song from his album that's considered mediocre. His music really reaches out to your soul and you feel all of its emotions. The sounds are just so soft and delicate yet very profound. I definitely recommend giving all his albums a try.

(Purchase his album here.  Follow me on twitter & facebook! Share this with your friends :D)

2D Hologram Projection Anime Celebrity Japanese Live Concert?!

I just came across the most ridiculous thing ever! Apparently there's an animated celebrity Vocaloid known as Hatsune Miku who uses a singing synthesizer to produce her voice. So basically she isn't a live human performer, but just a hologram projection with her own voice. This is probably the closest I've ever seen to "robots" being used as the human race's new source of entertainment and labor. Should definitely check it out and let me know what you think!

Note: I will stay true to the Media Buzz from all around the world and post a little more variety and also more often :) So expect some posts with music, art, video, and etc. just like this one! For all those who are worried that I might share less music, have no fear, I will still definitely keep the "A song a day" tradition going. I am basically just slowly adding more to the blog now :)

Nujabes - Lady Brown (Ft. Cise Starr)

Genre: Jazz Rap, Hip Hop

Nujabes - Lady Brown ( feat. Cise Starr From Cyne ) by ModernFusion

Nujabes is an artist that will forever be remembered for his unique sound. The way he blends jazz sounds with hip hop is just phenomenal. Every time I listen to his songs it really does feel like I'm getting transported somewhere very relaxing where I can truly listen to my own thoughts. Unfortunately he passed away from a traffic accident so his old songs are all we have left :( No one could ever replace or replicate his style and I hope you all enjoy his songs as much as I do.

Here's his signature amusing music video of people running in slow motion :P

( Purchase his album here.  Follow me on twitter & facebook! Share this with your friends :D )

P.S. Does anyone think I should change my Blog title and maybe subtitle as well? I'm trying to make the website more Search Engine friendly as well as more appealing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Excellent Gentlemen - Get Down Baby

Genre: R&B , Funk, Soul

Excellent Gentlemen - Get Down Baby by ModerneFusion

The intro of this song really reminds me of my previous funky music post with Jamie Lidell. I really like what these guys did with autotune. Instead of using it to improve their singing voice, they use it to actually create a sound instrument of its own and use it as a part of the funky tune of the song. For all those who like to get their groove on with some funk, definitely check this jam out :)

( Support these artists and purchase their album Just Say Yes.  Follow me on twitter & facebook! Share this song with your friends :D )

Vienna Teng - Stray Italian Greyhound

Genre: Indie Folk, Chamber Pop

Vienna Teng - Stray Italian Greyhound by ModerneFusion

Vienna Teng is an artist situated in California that I just happened to have found by chance. I actually can't even remember how I got a hold of her album but one of her songs popped up on shuffle and I instantly got drawn into her songs. Her style really reminds me of my post about the other artist Bet.E so if you liked that post, you should most definitely give Vienna's songs a try. What really drew me in was how well her voice meshed with the piano (and the violin/guitar solo-ish part). For those who want something new, like fresh new sounds and lyrics, I would definitely recommend listening to her album Inland Territory.

(If you like Vienna Teng and would like to support the artist, you can purchase her album Inland Territory on amazon)

P.S. Thank you all for your suggestions for my previous post, I think I'll just make a new account :P Soundcloud is too good to give up. Anyways, I gave myself a break today so I could read all your updates!! :) Hope you all have a great weekend!

Cassette Kids - Insomnia

Genre: Eletronic, Pop

Cassette Kids-Insomnia by ModerneFusion

Credits to Bao for this nice tune :)

I wanted to categorize this as somewhat alternative rock but realized the guitar sounds seem way too pop-y :P Anyway, the intro of this song is very nice and well done. If you listen to it on the headphones, you can notice that the intro actually kind of plays with the listener as it plays certain sounds on only one side of the listener. At first I thought the lead singer had a somewhat whiny voice, but as soon as she hits the falsettos it makes it much better and I realize that she sounds awesome! Anyway, hopefully I don't sound too brain dead, today's been a long day since I have decided to exercise so I don't pass away because of some dumb reason such as "being unfit." Hence my brain isn't as functional from the fatigue since I was already pumped all morning from exercise :P Hope you're all having a nice day!

Lest We Forget...

Note: Does anyone know of any other sound streaming/hosting websites? My soundcloud accounts slowly running out of minutes and may only last about two more posts, paying 58 euros for a year would really bite a chunk out of my bank :(

P.S. I will be a little bogged down this week with a job application/interview along with my preparations for finals so my apologies if I don't get around to everyone's blogs ><

ATB - Trilogy

Genre: Electronic

ATB - Trilogy (The Final Chapter) by ModerneFusion

Apologies for the late post!!

ATB has got to be one of my favorite artists, he first started out with some really decent electro dance music. Then this album came along and just blew me away. I think he just found his calling and went for it. He decided to play around with the piano sounds and created a really good classical piece with minor hints of electronic sounds in the background. This song is truly calming and is definitely worth listening to when you just need a few minutes to relax.

As indicated in the title, this is only "The Final Chapter" of the song, there are actually 2 other piano soundtracks that are a part of this trilogy:

Note: Finals are coming soon, so I will be posting more "scheduled" posts in which the content may not be as full of discussion as certain previous ones. My apologies for the inconvenience and I will definitely try to keep up with all your blogs too!

Mark Ronson ft. Boy George & Miike Snow - Somebody to Love me

Genre: Indie Electro Pop

Mark Ronson - Somebody to Love Me (ft. Boy George and Miike Snow) by
ModerneFusion

Alright guys, seems like not a lot of people enjoyed my double fluff post ;P But it's okay, hopefully this song will make up for it, it's much more serious and mellow :) Recently I've been posting a little more pop, but trust me, this one is definitely different. Boy George's amazing voice gives a soulful touch to this song while Miike Snow's unique offbeat indie electro beat complements Mark Ronson's already unique sound. I really hope you guys enjoy this one, because all I want is somebody to love me music too ;( LOL

(If you like Mark Ronson's music, you can support the artist by purchasing his album Record Collection on amazon)

Anjulie - Boom

Genre: Pop

Anjulie - Boom by ModerneFusion

Anjulie is actually quite famous already. Since I am not in the loop with all these tv series and stuff, I actually don't know the popular songs that are usually played in them, but apparently Anjulie has already won a few awards and has her song featured in shows such as the Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place, and Canada's Next Top Model. Anyway, Aside from that I think her album's quite good. It's a very happy-go-lucky kind of album that has songs that could potentially be very predictable crappy pop songs, but because she adds a little of her own flavor to it, it does sound very mainstream but different in a good way. Just give this song a listen and let me know what you think :)

(If you like Anjulie and would like to support the artist, you can purchase her album Anjulie on amazon)

By the way, does anybody think she sounds like Nelly Furtado?

Mark Ronson ft. Lily Allen - Oh My God

Genre: Alternative Pop

02 Mark Ronson Ft. Lily Allen - Oh My God by ModerneFusion

Favorite line: "I'll Come back stronger than a powered up batman"

All I can say is Mark Ronson never fails to impress. He comes up with the freshest beats and this time he made it a little more Jazzy with the saxophones. The song is very well done and Lily Allen's voice really suits the beats Mark Ronson made for her voice. I really enjoyed listening to this song and it's definitely fun to listen to when you're travelling or just far away from home ;P

On a side note, does anyone think this guy is probably some sort of style icon? it seems like he can really pull off a bunch of funky looks. I mean this picture doesn't do it justice, but in my previous post Mark Ronson & the Business Intl - Bang Bang, he can wear a yellow suit and still look cool in it :P If you don't agree with me now, later I will post his latest single and show you how he still looks cool with bleached blonde hair!

(If you really enjoyed this track and would like to support the artists, you can download the song Oh My God on amazon)

I hope you're all enjoying your weekends!!

Tinashé - Pieces of Paper

Genre: Alternative, Pop

09-tinashe-pieces of paper by ModerneFusion

There was a phase where I really liked this guy's songs and had his album on loop for a day. Anyway, I wanted to post this song after reading various quote pictures on MoneyNaoPlz's blog. I have to say that this song kind of relates to the quotes and my past perspective on life. It really does feel like we're constantly working and in search of something that we don't even know of. Like one example is the discussion of "Passion" for a career, after much discussion, I believe it's an idea created by this western culture to make your desires insatiable. It's almost too hard to be happy if you think you will find it in a job or any other tangible thing. In comparison to the old days, they just did their jobs and thought nothing of it, now with all these options and choices, we want the "perfect" job even though the education system makes jobs look like work that is not fun. So really, why are we working for pieces of paper when the lifestyle only consists of working, buying, consuming, then dying?
After much pondering, these thoughts may be quite pessimistic because I personally think that no matter what, there are always things to look forward to. I think in the end it all comes down to: if you see all these negativity, then change it by changing yourself. You might think since this is the doing of the modern/western culture that we should just move elsewhere, but there is an old latin saying that says even if you change your surroundings and environment, it does not change the environment within you. So ya, lets all be happy happy joy joy :)

P.S. Let me know about your perspective on the concept of having a passion for your job or life in general in the comment box blow! :)

Dr. Dre - Turn me on

Genre: G-funk, Hip Hop

Dr. Dre - Turn Me On by ModerneFusion

I know that there are a lot of people out there who really hate rap, but I honestly think it's because of your exposure to mainstream rap that you can't really stand the ridiculously cheesy and crappy lyrics, horrible rhymes, and annoying rappers that laugh at their own smart-ass lines *cough cough*. ANYWAY, I believe Dr.Dre is probably one of the only rappers that you can still call BOSS, he actually works hard on his beats and try to incorporate some nice old school stuff with the new sounds. Unfortunately this track is only 2 minutes long but I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially while I was driving home feeling good about my psychology midterm :D

By the way, I'd like to thank you all for those who had given me feedback for the blog, and I am currently considering on putting a very minimalistic/simplistic wallpaper with some subtle hues, a nice logo/banner, and maybe try to figure out some widgets so I might be able to put all my posted songs into a playlist for those who just want to afk on my webpage as they listen to some jams. But anyway, hopefully I will get started on these after my midterm tomorrow. Thank you for all your comments and I hope to hear lots from you guys :)

Jean Honeymoon ft. Dowty Ebi - Bang Bang

Genre: Chillout, Lounge

Since I couldn't find a picture of the two artists together, I decided to post a picture of one of my favorite artists, Takeshi Murakami. He was the artist who did various designs for Louis Vuitton and also the album cover for Kanye West's album with that bear. Anyway, this song really reminds me of my previous post of Imogen Heap ft. Urban Species, there's just something about the combination of a woman's beautiful voice with some mellow rapping that just makes it sound so good. I kind of don't like the rap at times because sometimes it seems like he's just saying random things that don't add to the song at all, but nevertheless I really enjoyed this song. Hope you guys enjoy it too :)

Edit:
(For those who love this track and would like to support the artists, you can download the mp3 track on amazon. The version without the rapper: Bang Bang & the version featuring Dowty Ebi Bang Bang)

**Note: I was wondering if any of you could give me some feedback about this website? Like should I change the layout? Add my own banner and logo? Keep it the way it is? Post about other media stuff like fashion/comedy and etc. other than just music? Let me know! :)**

Teriyaki Boyz ft. Pharrell & Busta Rhymes - Zock On!

Genre: J-Hip Hop

After reading a comment from the last post, I've realized that aside from my SOIL & Pimp Sessions Japanese Jazz post that I didn't really post a lot of Asian music. Since I know that it's really hard to get into songs that have lyrics that you can't understand, I thought it'd be nice to post some Japanese Hip Hop by yours truly, the Teriyaki Boyz. The reason why I chose these guys is because they're actually very immersed in American culture so a lot of their songs have generally the same formula with a Japanese twist. For those who think they sound quite familiar, these are the guys who rapped the theme song for the movie Fast&Furious:Tokyo Drift. Anyway, I understand if you don't like their songs at first, because I didn't, but really you have to listen to them with an open mind and not take them too seriously, it's all about just having fun when you listen to their songs. There will be one day where you're too busy doing something that you won't have the time to change the song on your mp3 player so you will just listen to the song all the way through then realize that it actually grows on you :P

(If you like the Teriyaki Boyz and would like to support the artists, you can purchase their album Serious Japanese on amazon)

Note: Has anyone noticed that the Asian hip hop scene is WAY ahead of America? I mean these guys already started wearing sunglasses in clubs WAY before any songs in America even thought about incorporating electronic sounds into their beats. Anyway, I just think it's really weird how fashion/music fads get passed around so much without us even noticing. Like you go to Europe and laugh at those people who wear extremely bright colored pants and etc. Then after a few years you start seeing people wear them over here and it's cool and preppy. Anyway, I am just blabbing, enjoy the song! :)

Thank you all so much for reading my blog and commenting. If you have any feedbacks please feel free to drop a comment!
